Sachi Ramachandran : In my opinion, the only candidates that support a better future for all Americans are Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris. Based on the candidates website’s alone, it is clear that Biden/Harris have a more concise plan for the future. The plans they have regarding a more readily available higher education, healthcare plans, plans to re-enter the Paris Accord, are all wonderful things that any American, regardless of political beliefs, should want to see instituted. I do believe that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will win, based solely on President Trump’s actions regarding COVID-19, racial tensions, and the passing of Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. Any American who was stuck in the middle trying to choose between the two candidates, had to have chosen now. The Presidential Debate was a terrible presentation for both of the candidates, with Joe Biden stating he doesn’t support the Green New Deal (even though it states on his campaign website that he does), and President Trump attacking Biden’s family. It wasn’t a political or productive debate by any sense of the term, and quite reminded me of two children fighting over a toy. The Presidential Debate did not provide Americans with any comfort in knowing there would be a peaceful transition of power or provide any clarity in who they should vote for.The Vice Presidential Debate was much more civil, with fewer personal attacks between the candidates, but both sides often refused to answer the question and contradicted themselves. Both debates were messy, but the Vice Presidential Debate by far provided more insight into the candidates plans and beliefs. President Trump and the GOP’s efforts to inhibit voting across the United States is frankly scary and should not be something we tolerate as a democracy. Regardless of the frankly unconstitutional and misplaced voter oppression, each American should do their best to get to the polls to vote. A vote for Joe Biden is a vote that protects the rights of LGBTQ+, women, immigrants, people of color, and even those who rely on government provided healthcare. Vote for those who can’t, vote for those whose rights are under attack, and vote for those whose voices desperately need to be heard.
Austen Wyche: As of right now, the victors of the Presidential Election should be the ticket of Vice President Joe Biden and Senator Kamala Harris. Their elaborate plans to deal with the COVID-19 pandemic, the climate crisis, racial injustice, and economic recovery are desperately needed. According to the recent polls, including those by Fox News and the conservative leaning Rasmussen, Biden and Harris should be the winners of the presidential election, likely winning the popular vote and electoral college. The irresponsibility of the Trump Administration was on full display at both of the debates, with the President testing positive due to his stubborn anti-mask sentiment and promotion of COVID-19 downplaying. The refusal of the President of the United States, a leader on the national stage to condemn the presence of systemic racism and white supremacy in the United States is utterly embarrassing and in my opinion, disqualifying. In the First Presidential Debate between President Trump and VP Biden, Biden was the clear victor, offering legitimate plans, while the former continuously lied about issues regarding voting, the coronavirus pandemic, the Supreme Court nomination, and a myriad of issues. In the Vice Presidential Debate between Michael Pence and Senator Harris, the full misogyny and ignorance of the Vice President was on display. While telling his diet lies, he could not actually answer any questions regarding Roe v. Wade, the refusal of a peaceful transfer of power, the coronavirus pandemic, and the Supreme Court’s upcoming decision regarding the constitutionality of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act of 2010. Constantly interrupting the moderator, the Vice President pretended as if Susan Page was not present. The rampant racism, ignorance, bigotry, sexism, and misogyny is on full display in this election. While the Biden/Harris campaign needs a better answer on the court packing idea, the suggestion is a complete hypothetical that likely will not happen. The Biden/Harris campaign won both the Presidential and Vice Presidential Debates through using a once coveted strategy- truth and legitimate plans to help Americans. Mike Pence is worse than Donald Trump, he can avoid getting emotional over his lies, appearing calm while his veracity is completely gone. The overall candidacy of Kamala Harris is historic, the first African American and Indian American woman on a national ticket is astonishing and history achieving. The Senator has served as a District Attorney, State Attorney General, becoming a champion and leader in criminal justice reform, environmental justice, protecting worker’s rights, and civil liberties. While Senator Harris has a positive record, the Vice President, Michael Pence, is a defender of the pseudoscientific practice of conversion therapy and religious right to discriminate. The day after the debate, the President went on Fox News and referred to the Senator as a “monster,” a clear dog whistle strategy to use the “angry black woman” trope. Americans know that if Senator Harris hit Pence too hard, she would have been faced with massive criticism laced in sexist and racist stereotypes and tropes. The lawsuits by the Republican National Committee and the Trump campaign to limit those who can vote are utterly despicable. The GOP labels themselves as the “silent majority,” but I doubt the party who has not won the popular vote in 16 years is a majority. They have filed lawsuits in Pennsylvania, Wisconsin, Montana, Texas, South Carolina, and a number of other states to limit the counting of absentee ballots being counted and introducing preposterous obstacles to casting ballots. Having a witness signature requirement in South Carolina is completely unnecessary when a large proportion of the country lives alone and considering we are in a….. global pandemic. I believe that to defeat the authoritarian anti-democratic Trump Administration, voters must overwhelmingly defeat him at the polls, despite the unconstitutional measures Trump judges have condoned. To defeat and preserve our sacred system of government, we must elect Joe Biden as President and Kamala Harris as Vice President of the United States of America.
Khushi Patel: Biden and Harris appear to have the clearest and most responsible vision for the future of America and its citizens, so I am expecting and hoping for their win in the 2020 election. The way the Trump Administration handled issues like the Covid-19 Pandemic, climate change, and America’s economic system was careless and harmful. Withdrawal from the Paris Agreement was absolutely irresponsible, as it suggested the idea that the U.S. was no longer going to put effort into battling the huge global phenomenon of climate change. Additionally, the careless way of handling the recent pandemic cost the lives of over 200,000 Americans. I believe that with Biden and Harris, there will be a revival in these main areas, and America will possibly be in a better condition than where it’s being left in 2020. A conflict that’s been recently brought up this year was the issue with racial injustice. I believe that under a Biden-Harris administration, there will be a higher probability of an attempt at actual police reform that could transform the lives of Black Americans in society. I believe that these recent issues need to be addressed more meaningfully and clearly, something not offered by the Trump Administration. During the Presidential Debate, I believed Trump was standing on that stage not to address the American people, but to merely be obnoxious and disrespectful to Biden and U.S. citizens. If Trump wants to win more votes from the American people, he needs to be aware of the fact that it is important to be inclusive towards all groups of people coming from different social classes, backgrounds, and religions. During the topic of white supremacy and BLM, Biden clearly stated that he was willing to reform the policing system in order to create a greater sense of equality for Black Americans. Trump on the other hand, strayed away from condemning white supremacy. By refusing to admit that there is a problem with racism in American society, he was indirectly insinuating that he was not representative of all American citizens. During the Vice Presidential Debate, I believed that Pence was stalling many of the questions asked of him as he never gave a concise or direct answer. For example, when asked about the Covid-19 Pandemic and the administration’s poor way of handling the issue, Pence went on to blame China and stated that there were going to be vaccines out before 2021. This, in my opinion, is not a very good response to the questions that were asked. Many of the American people have lost their faith in the Trump Administration’s way of handling the virus, so to suggest that vaccines “will” be out soon without any scientific backup or confirmation does not assure anyone of anything, especially after 6-7 long months of rapidly increasing cases and deaths. Additionally, blaming China does absolutely nothing to fix America’s situation at hand. It just provokes the idea that Pence was simply using a scapegoat to avoid admitting their lack of responsibility with the issue. On the other hand, I believe Kamala Harris did an excellent job bringing her plans for the future of America forward, managing to be on topic, majority of the time, and answering the questions directly. Lastly, I believe the President’s attempt to restrict the number of people able to cast a ballot is unfair and unrepresentative of American citizens. All citizens should have a right to use their voices in society without being suppressed.
Aasim Musani: I believe that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will win the 2020 Presidential Election as their lead in polls shows. After the failure of the American COVID response, I feel that most Americans have lost faith in the Trump Administration. Trump’s polarizing nature of speech pushes many people away from his camp and towards the Democrats, who so far have shown less flaws in their overall campaign. Also, the way that Trump has run his campaigns through hateful language and clear misinformation will eventually crumble as seen in the Presidential Debate, where Trump could be seen on a complete back foot, trying anything possible to sway favor to his side with no actual results. Biden managed to speak clearly throughout the slander of himself and his family and delivered a strong message to all Americans. Unlike the Presidential Debate, the Vice Presidential Debate was more concise and civilized. Both candidates avoided tricky situations but Harris left with a clear lead as much of what Pence spoke about was trying to build a foundation, unlike the situation of Harris, where she had the liberty to build off of what Biden had stated to come through with a strong debate. Finally, the efforts of the RNC and the Trump Administration to suppress voting by filing multiple lawsuits shows that the Republicans are scared of losing the power that they commanded for the past 4 years throughout the nation. They know the outcome is not favoring them, and if they keep trying to pull stunts like this, their position will only worsen in the eyes of the population.
Shreya Sunil: I believe that the campaign of Joe Biden and Kamala Harris will win the 2020 presidential election by a landslide. During this year of uncertainties, the Trump administration has done very little to benefit the American people. The president himself has advocated for an end to masks and reopening of the US economy despite witnessing 210,000 innocent deaths due to the current Covid-19 pandemic. The American people must understand that the Trump administration has taken away our freedom right out of our hands and has lied throughout his presidency. The current case on repealing the Affordable Care Act is just depressing, as he wants to take away affordable health care from over 20 million Americans without any plan on how to continue further. The First Presidential Debate that occurred a few weeks ago was just so sad as Trump did not address the issues that he needed to and uttered a bunch of lies. Also, another point that needs to be addressed is how Trump has paid his taxes for this year. He has only paid $750, which is thousands less than what the American people had to pay. Is he going to help bring our country forward to its most prosperous state? Now going to the Joe Biden and Kamala Harris campaign, they have promised a well put together plan about how to advance our country in terms of tackling climate change and ensuring equal rights to all. During Biden's 40 plus years of service to our country, we have witnessed massive positive changes that have benefited the American people because he is dedicated to bringing prosperity to the nation. Current actions by the President and RNC to restrict the number of voters allowed to participate in the election is a mere scheme to try to change the outcome. They know that the majority of the American people do not support the current administration due to the lack of unity during the pandemic, so they want to try everything in their power to win the election. One last question to leave you thinking, would you vote for Trump and Pence who has only blinded you with their lies, or would you vote for a President that will stand by you and try to fix the major problems that have affected our society? The choice is yours.
Alex Butler: I believe that Joe Biden and Kamala Harris are the best candidates for president and vice president. The Trump administration has done immense damage to our country, along with countless personal things Trump has done to hurt the nation and its citizens. I think that Biden/Harris has a chance of winning and being elected, despite voter suppression, gerrymandering, and the general mass of republican voters. The embarrassing actions by Trump at the debate spoke for themselves. Trump’s constant interruptions and distractions showed how desperate he has become to remain in power. Trump has been ignorant of scientists and other educated advisors on action against Covid-19. His recklessness and lack of strength in response and action has led many to die. Biden and Harris have a strong plan to fight coronavirus and slow the pandemic in America. 2020 has been a roller coaster of a year, but the actions of the Trump administration have caused many downfalls and low points in America. The American People deserve candidates who care about them and fight for their safety, instead of a selfish and ignorant man like Trump. The attempts by the RNC to commit massive voter suppression are despicable. The president and his fellow republicans have no choice but to rely on massive voter suppression to remain in power. It’s against the ideals of democracy to keep people from voting, whether they are against you or for you. Everyone deserves a right to vote, and everyone deserves a president that will actually make decisions for the good of the people.
